Cultural Spring GET PUNKED
“What I really resent about people sticking labels on you is that it cuts off all the other elements of what you are because it can only deal with black and white; the cartoon.” (Punk Artist Siouxsie Sioux)
This quote motivated film, movement, photography, song writing and music workshops delivered by Experiential, Roxy Mitchell and Hayley Youell to the Cultural Spring community in Sunderland and South Shields.
“What a blast! Reliving the punk era, making our outfits, rewriting punk anthems, learning guitar power chords, rehearsing our new song and finally, the photo shoot for the album cover! Amazing workshops with a fab bunch of people. I never knew Punk could be so fun!” (Sandra Naglis)
The company is very grateful to Cultural Spring and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens for giving them this opportunity
Bridging The Void
‘Bridging The Void’, devised and choreographed by the company’s artistic director and resident filmmaker Rachel Johnson, provided audiences across the UK with a mesmerizing experience during 2015 & 2016 national tour.
This sensory piece interweaves calming projections of sunrise, dramatic movement by three highly trained dancers, an engrossing light installation design and a hypnotic score, creating a really unique, 360 degree performance experience.
‘Bridging The Void’ is a perfect collaboration between choreographer, dancers, filmmaker and composer and proved an audience favourite with most venues selling out.
Amazing, I felt like a true participant. It was deeply moving- engendering hope- beautiful to watch and be a part of.
Film ‘First Light’ presented at Battle Music & Dance festival, Pure Arts Art Fair (Autumn 2014 & 2015)
Rachel collaborated with film artist SorhabKavir to create a dance film for the National Gallery (2013)
Spatiality… Virtuality. (2013)
The piece provoked a strong reaction in myself. I experienced far more emotion and feeling than I ever expected.
